Modeling localized bearing faults using inverse Gaussian mixtures

چکیده

Localized bearing faults exhibit specific repetitive vibrational patterns. Due to the constant angular distance between the roller elements, the vibrational patterns occur on regular angular intervals. Under constant operating conditions such patterns become easily detectable as “periodic” events. Slippage or small variation in rotational speed are commonly modeled by introducing normally distributed time variations, which allows for occurrence of “negative” time intervals. In this paper we present an approach which models the occurrences of localized bearing fault patterns as a realization of random point process whose inter-event time intervals are governed by inverse Gaussian mixture. Having support on (0,∞), the random impact times can acquire strictly positive values. The applicability of the model was evaluated on vibrational signals generated by bearing models with localized surface fault.

Dynamic Modeling of Rolling Element Bearings With Surface Contact Defects Using Bond Graphs

Multibody dynamics of healthy and faulty rolling element bearings were modeled using vector bond graphs. A 33 degree of freedom (DOF) model was constructed for a bearing with nine balls and two rings (11 elements). The developed model can be extended to a rolling element bearing with n elements and 3 n DOF in planar and 6 n DOF in three dimensional motions. The model incorporates the gyroscopic...

Variable length mixtures of inverse covariances

The mixture of inverse covariances model is a low-complexity, approximate decomposition of the inverse covariance matrices in a Gaussian mixture model which achieves high modeling accuracy with very good computational efficiency. In this model, the inverse covariances are decomposed into a linear combination of K shared prototype matrices. In this paper, we introduce an extension of this model ...

Early Classifications of Bearing Faults Using Hidden Markov Models, Gaussian Mixture Models, Mel-frequency Cepstral Coefficients and Fractals

Most rotating-machines failures are often linked to bearing failures. Proper condition monitoring on bearings is therefore essential to reduce the duration of machine down-times. This paper introduces feature extraction methodologies that can facilitate early detection of bearing faults. The time-domain vibration signals of a rotating machine with normal and defective bearings are processed for...

Wayside Bearing Fault Diagnosis Based on a Data-Driven Doppler Effect Eliminator and Transient Model Analysis

A fault diagnosis strategy based on the wayside acoustic monitoring technique is investigated for locomotive bearing fault diagnosis. Inspired by the transient modeling analysis method based on correlation filtering analysis, a so-called Parametric-Mother-Doppler-Wavelet (PMDW) is constructed with six parameters, including a center characteristic frequency and five kinematic model parameters. A...
